What is the Blue Sky program?
Mountain Burger is certified as a Blue Sky Luminary business partner, meaning that 100% of our monthly energy use is matched to support renewable energy. Pacific Power purchases renewable energy certificates (RECs) equal to the Blue Sky purchase, guaranteeing that renewable energy was produced and delivered to the grid. For every unit of renewable energy generated, an equivalent amount of RECs is produced. Furthermore, the Blue Sky program has helped fund 148 community-based projects. The Blue Sky program is available to all customers so you can get involved too!
What are renewable energy certificates (RECs)?
RECs are the rights to renewable electricity production. They are issued when one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity is generated from a renewable energy source and delivered to the electricity grid. RECs are important for accounting, tracking, and assigning ownership to renewable electricity generation and use. The owner of a REC has the rights to the attributes of 1 MWh of renewable energy and can not be purchased again, meaning that no one else can claim that renewable energy or its environmental benefits as theirs.

How much is one MWh of electricity?
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the average annual electricity consumption in 2021 was 10,632 kWh (10.632 MWh) per residential utility customer.
